Sarah Nugent is a Registered Psychologist with a Master of Science degree from the University of Calgary. She has many years of clinical psychological experience in a variety of settings. She has a strong reputation with many schools and community organizations. She works with all ages from preschool to adults and has extensive assessment experience in the areas of cognitive disabilities, learning disabilities, giftedness, French Immersion, ADHD, Autism Spectrum, behaviour problems, and mental health challenges. Sarah also offers follow-up sessions targeting specialized learning strategies for junior high, high school, and post-secondary students to help them keep up with the demands of independent learning.
Sarah takes a strength-based approach when working with families, children, teens, and adults by identifying their areas of strength to promote resiliency and then addressing their areas of need through direct intervention and/or the development of an intervention plan. With a focus on empowerment, Sarah provides strategy-based counselling within a cognitive-behavioural, narrative, and solution-focused framework. She uses evidenced-based strategies in a creative and interactive way to make skills meaningful for all ages. Sarah’s specialized areas of interest include: emotional regulation, stress/worry, anxiety, self-esteem, mild depression, social skills, and self-regulation. Sarah enjoys working collaboratively with parents and schools to help support the generalization of skills and promote overall positive well-being.
