Supporting Your Child Amidst Challenging Emotions, Behaviors, and Life Changes

Parenting is not easy when a child is facing big emotions, anxiety, ADHD, behavioural concerns, or major life changes. In this workshop, presented in partnership with the First Nations Telehealth Network, Jay Johnson, Registered Psychologist at The Family Psychology Place, helps parents understand their child’s emotional processes and the behaviours that come with them. Jay has more than seven years of experience counselling children and adolescents and supporting the parents and teachers who work with them.

What You’ll Learn:

Typical vs. Concerning Behaviours: Recognize the difference between typical childhood behaviours and signs that a child may be struggling emotionally or behaviourally.
How Concerns Affect Your Child: Understand how anxiety, ADHD, emotional regulation difficulties, and changes in family circumstances can affect emotions and behaviour.
Responding with Connection: Learn practical strategies for responding to challenging behaviours while maintaining connection, emotional safety, and communication.
Building Coping Skills: Gain tools to help children develop coping skills, emotional regulation, confidence, and resilience.

Who This Session Is For:

Parents and Caregivers: Anyone supporting a child or teen who is experiencing emotional, behavioural, or developmental challenges.
Families Going Through Change: Those navigating anxiety, ADHD, difficulty managing emotions, divorce, family transitions, or other concerns.

Parenting a child through big emotions is hard, and you don’t have to figure it out alone. Watch the recording to hear Jay’s practical, supportive strategies, and start using them at home.
