Personality Assessments in Calgary

A personality assessment is used to look at an individual’s personality traits, behaviors, and patterns. These assessments are often used in various settings, such as psychology, counseling, business, and education, to understand a person’s characteristics and how they may influence their thoughts, feelings, and actions.

Personality assessments typically involve answering a series of questions or completing tasks designed to measure specific traits or aspects of personality as well as looking at mental health, day to day functioning and cognitive skills (e.g., memory, executive functioning, and IQ)

Types of Personality Assessments:

  1. Self-Report Questionnaires: The individual answers questions about themselves using particular questionnaires designed to help determine which characteristics you are most like
  2. Projective Tests: The individual is shown ambiguous stimuli (like pictures or words) and asked to respond, revealing unconscious thoughts and feelings
  3. Behavioral Assessments: Observing how a person behaves in various situations or environments to assess personality traits.
  4. Interviews and Behavioral Surveys: Structured or unstructured interviews with a clinician

Uses:

  • Personal Development: Understanding one’s strengths and weaknesses.
  • Career Counseling: Matching individuals to jobs or careers that align with their personality traits.
  • Therapy: Identifying patterns that may need to be addressed in a therapeutic setting.
