Happy Holidays From The Family Psychology Place
Happy holidays from The Family Psychology Place. We want to extend our gratitude this holiday season. We appreciate you, our clients from throughout NW and SW Calgary. You make the work we do rewarding, and for this reason, we want to compile a few holiday best practices to help you maintain your mental and physical health over the holidays.
Practice Self-Care
The holidays are a time for friends and family to celebrate each other. While this is a great practice, it can also become draining—especially for those of us who aren’t inherently social. For this reason, it’s important to focus on self-care over the holidays.
- Set appropriate expectations: Enforce healthy boundaries with friends and family. Ensure they’re non-negotiable, and don’t let people cross them.
- Take time for yourself: The holidays are hectic, so don’t be afraid to gather your thoughts and decompress for a few moments.
- Keep a healthy routine: Ensure you eat healthily and drink enough water every day.
- Get enough sleep: It’s easy to forego sleep during the holidays, but it’s never a healthy idea. Regular sleep is essential for self-care.
- Stay away from alcohol: If you can, reduce or eliminate alcohol consumption. You’ll feel better the next day and throughout the holidays.
Acknowledge the Past Year
It’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day. Unfortunately, that makes it hard to see your progress over the past year. Taking time to acknowledge the year you’ve had brings light to all the good you’ve done. Even modest achievements can make you feel more confident and self-assured.
Don’t Be Afraid to Ask for Help
Despite the goodwill associated with it, the holiday season has its stressors. For many, that pressure can feel overwhelming—especially if they’re already suffering from anxiety, depression, PTSD, ADHD, or other conditions.
Thankfully, nobody has to manage the stress of the holidays alone. At The Family Psychology Place, we’re here to help. Our psychologists specialize in numerous conditions, including autism, depression, anxiety, and ADHD.
