What can we help with?

We’ll help you work out whether counselling, assessment or another service is the right next step. You may have a specific question, or you may know something needs to change without knowing where to start. Either is fine.

If your needs change—for example, if you move from assessment to counselling—the handoff stays within our team, so you don’t have to start over. We’ll match you with a clinician whose training and experience fit your needs. Our psychologists and licensed clinical social workers consult with one another, and all clinicians have support from senior psychologists when a situation is complex.

Support that fits into everyday life

Adult Counselling in Calgary

Counselling gives you time to understand what’s happening, notice patterns and build new ways of responding. Sessions might focus on managing distress, working through a difficult decision, improving a relationship or making daily responsibilities feel more manageable.

You and your psychologist/social worker will agree on priorities and an approach that suits you. That might mean practical strategies, changes in behaviour, exploring experiences that still affect you, or working toward a clearer sense of direction.

You don’t need a diagnosis or a crisis to begin. Wanting support, understanding or a different way forward is reason enough.

Clearer answers to questions that have been hard to resolve

Psychological Assessment for Adults in Calgary

If attention, learning, social experiences or emotional difficulties are affecting your life, an assessment can help you understand why. Some adults have struggled since childhood. Others begin asking questions as the demands of university, work, relationships or parenting increase.

The goal of an assessment is to provide an informed explanation and recommendations you can use. It looks at your history, current experiences, strengths and challenges. Depending on your question, it may include interviews, questionnaires and standardized testing.

What to expect

Adult ADHD Assessment

If you regularly struggle to start tasks, manage time, stay organized or follow through, you may wonder whether ADHD is part of the picture.

An adult ADHD assessment looks at these experiences across your life and considers other factors that could contribute. The aim is to clarify whether ADHD is present and to identify the supports that would help.

Adult Autism Assessment

Some adults seek an assessment after years of finding social situations confusing or exhausting, dealing with sensory challenges, or feeling they must carefully manage how they come across to others.

An autism assessment explores your developmental history and current experiences. It considers whether autism helps explain your pattern of strengths and difficulties, and it examines other possible explanations too.

Learning and Cognitive Assessment

Ongoing difficulty with reading, writing, math, memory or processing information can affect postsecondary studies and work. An assessment can clarify your learning profile and inform strategies, supports and, where appropriate, accommodations.

Emotional and Psychological Assessment

When emotional or behavioural concerns are complex or overlapping, an assessment can clarify what’s contributing and guide treatment planning.

Other Assessments

These assessments are sometimes requested by family members, physicians, lawyers or insurers. Please contact our team to talk through what’s needed.

Memory Assessment

If you’ve noticed changes in memory, concentration or your ability to manage everyday information, an assessment can clarify your strengths and challenges. Findings can guide practical strategies, recommendations for support and, where appropriate, further medical investigation.

Competency and Capacity Assessment

Questions sometimes arise about whether an adult can understand information, appreciate the consequences of a decision and make informed choices. We assess capacity in relation to the specific decision or purpose involved, rather than treating it as all-or-nothing. Please contact us to discuss the assessment required and share any relevant legal documentation.

Psychological Assessment After a Motor Vehicle Accident

A motor vehicle accident can change how you feel, sleep, travel and manage daily life. You might feel anxious when driving, have distressing memories, notice changes in mood, or struggle to adjust to pain and reduced independence.

A psychological assessment explores these concerns, their effects on your functioning and any relevant pre-existing factors. It helps clarify your needs and guides treatment and support recommendations. We work with insurers and legal representatives and can provide reports for insurance and legal purposes.

Individual or Couples Counselling?

You can come to individual counselling to work on relationship concerns, even if your partner or family members aren’t attending.

If you and your partner want to attend together, visit our couples counselling page. Couples counselling may be a better fit for working on communication, recurring conflict, trust or changes in your relationship. Tell us what you’re looking for, and we’ll help match you with the right psychologist.
